Description

Humans think of bats as elusive, mysterious, almost supernatural creatures, silently gliding through the interface between light and darkness. To experience the life of one of these night flyers, take a trip to the Cockpit Country of Jamaica, a crater-filled lunar landscape covered with lush jungle. The entrance to a cave in the hillside is shrouded day and night by a swirling fog, created when the warm air of the outside world meets the cold breath of the dark chambers beneath, with its scent of deep-reaching tree roots, moist earth, and dripping limestone walls. At dusk the bat wakes and flies on delicate, leathery wings through the stony labyrinth seeking the balmy air outside. It drinks from a stream, feasts on the wild jungle figs that grow on the hillside, and enjoys the ripe bananas and other soft fruit that grow in the cultivated clearings near the village. Fully satisfied, it makes its way back to its roost where it snuggles with its warm companions, grooms itself meticulously, and falls asleep again, lulled by the clean, sweet scent of musky fur. All sizes are parfum concentration. Notes: sandalwood, olibanum wood, vetiver, furry musk accord, wet earth, damp air, mineral notes, resins, leather, figs, banana, soft tropical fruits.

This is one of those addicting fragrances. I just can’t stop smelling my arms. This is art! I smell each component individually, but also all together as one. I purchased a few other perfumes from this shop, but I don’t think I can stop spraying this one on long enough to try them.

Gorgeous! Unique, but wearable, and true to life. The day after I received this perfume, I went on a hike and kept smelling the exact mineral, earthy accord I smelled in this perfume. Simply stunning – it brings a smile to my face every time I catch a whiff of it!

    Art in a bottle.
The various elements are perfectly blended, and create a fantastic , fresh bright but deep fragrance. It never disappoints me and I can’t have enough of it!
As a “love it or hate it” fragrance, it’s not for everyone; but it’s not my case.
    Well done, Ellen!

A triumphant olfactory mirage – tenebrous and hypereal.

An impressive, surprisingly wearable fragrance that will confound and delight yourself and those around you.

    10/10

I ordered this fragrance purely out of curiosity, due to some YouTube videos I’d seen. I am so glad I did. This is an absolutely unique and gorgeous scent! Completely wearable. I love it!

The moist earth accord was the first I noticed, but I also get an almost arboreal perception, due to the ripe fruit in the mix. Nothing animalic about this one for me. It’s all about the brooding presence of the cave, hiding its secrets since time, immemorial, finally discovered by Ellen Covey. It is masterfully blended. This is an olfactory experience that you owe it to yourself to take.

    A perfect 10 out of 10

I’ve read so many descriptions of this scent, I thought I was prepared for it. But let me tell you, it shocked me! Caves have been a source of intrigue and a place of solace for me since I was a child, so when I opened the sample vial and was hit with the wet musk and minerals I literally yelled with joy. Reading the story of this fragrance on the website as I smelled along was a journey unlike any other. She hits every single note and blends them with perfect harmony. It’s beautiful to witness an intention being so thoughtfully and precisely executed. This is a work of art, a masterpiece. I’ve read many reviews that say they wouldn’t wear this perfume out, but I had the opposite reaction. I want to go outside, in the balmy heat of summer, and run along the damp earth. I want to go watch the bats fly out at sunset, I want to find a cave and crawl inside. I want to taste tropical fruits so sweet and ripe they are almost rotten. This fragrance fills me with joy, pure and simple yet so complex I could smell it for hours and still be surprised. Even if you decide you wouldn’t wear it out, the experience of smelling it at home, closing your eyes and going on the journey of the bat is easily worth the $3 it costs for a sample. I will be buying a full bottle ASAP.

Fantastic. Unique and interesting, yet totally wearable with great performance. I really enjoy Night Flyer in hot, humid summer weather. This is Ellen Covey’s best fragrance. A superb value at $120, or even less when on sale.

Smells exactly as described 🙂 If you love soil and wet rocks, the slight sweetness of well aerated compost, this is for you! This scent is comforting earth and complex enough not to get boring. Excellent work <3

I have had a really difficult finding a perfume that didn’t give me a headache and that matched my personality. This scent is everything I’ve dreamed of and more . Fresh dirt and wet rock straight out of the bottle, and an incredible gender neutral (and surprisingly wearable) dry down that still keeps those earthy notes. I keep the sample bottle in my car just so I can smell it as much as possible.

Wacky tropical fruit miscellany on smoky steaming, mouldered wood patties, some of which have decayed to earth. It’s no wonder why Zoologist’s Bat (from 2015) is panned in gold; with Night Flyer, Ellen has shown a heart for those who were too late to the party (like me). Thank you for re-releasing this unique fragrance, dear Ellen.

If I could give this fragrance infinite stars, I would! Never before, in my history of loving and smelling fragrances have I been so moved. As a PNW westside native, I was born and raised in the forest. I have always loved the smell of the forest after a fresh rain fall; the damp dirt and wet leaves brought me a sense of peace and comfort. When I first smelt this fragrance 1 year ago it took me back to the happy childhood memories that I had of exploring and wasting the days away in those forests. Of course, I was devastated to learn that it was no longer obtainable. But only moments ago I just applied a scent to my skin that I never thought I would have the pleasure of smelling again. Honestly, it made me cry. I am so elated that you have brought back the original “high flyer”. I will never let my closet shelves be void of this scent as long as it is available and I am alive! Thank you Ellen Covey for bringing back this amazing fragrance!

Just….wow. I read the previous reviews and was expecting it to be awesome, but I was not prepared for how incredible this weird and wonderful olfactory experience is on my skin. And it’s not exaggeration to call it an experience- this scent unfolds slowly, telling a story as it blooms on the skin. I am typically very hesitant to try anything with fruity notes. I usually find them to be fake, overly sweet, or too dominant to enjoy. But here they just enhance the other notes, bringing a balance and subtle sweetness that enhances the dank, earthy notes. It’s difficult to describe, but there’s a hint of the aromatic rot of an old growth forest here- the wet, sweet earthy stench of layers of fallen leaves and plant matter decaying in a humid climate. And it’s GORGEOUS! I smell the ancient air of a cave, the cool wet stones and a bit of animalistic musk, then the warm, heavy, fragrant air of the tropical forest as I step out from the mouth of the cave. This fragrance tells a story that touches on the primal part of the brain, the part that lived in caves and hunted for food with rocks and spears. It paints a shockingly accurate picture of a place that is both foreign and yet very familiar. This scent is a MOOD, lol! I am so beyond impressed at the level of artistry and skill it takes to create something this special. As others have said, this is truly art. I look forward to seeing how it evolves as it ages. This masterpiece will be a prominent part of my collection from now on. Bravo!!!

My nickname for this scent is “Wet Rock.” It smells like just that, but somehow extremely alluring and, like, addictive and yummy and gorgeous? I am never so attracted to my own arm as when I have this sprayed on it, and when I wear this out and about, folks are always like, “WTF IS THAT AMAZING SMELL OMG.” So. It’s your call, but if you’re asking me, the answer is BUY THIS NOW.

Kind of surprised that I love this. I am very into earthy/dirt smells but was worried about the listed banana note. I don’t get much banana! Maybe unripe, but I get more of a guava. I love how the fruit isn’t too sweet and doesn’t overpower the soil/mineral notes. Honestly I was expecting this to be much “dirtier” considering how dramatic some reviews are. I would totally wear this out, but I recognize it is not for everyone. Can’t wait to see what it does in warmer weather!
